Happiness Is...

Happiness is...
... hearing your 2 1/2 year old shout out from the back seat "I want Zeppelin."  (Sorry, honey!)

Actually, it is a very welcome departure for me.  Over the past month or two I'd been loading some old cassette tapes into iTunes, and coincidentally had pulled in Queen's Greatest Hits the day before Jacob (6) asked me out of the blue if I had ever heard that song that goes "We will.... we will... Rock You!"  (Heretofore known in our household as the "Rock You! Rock You!" song.)  It was a hit with both boys, to the point where it was all they wanted to listen to when we were in the car with me.

Here's a little math exercise for you:  You leave the house for errands on Saturday morning.  You drive 10 minutes to the dry cleaners.  Then you drive for 15 minutes to Karate.  Then you drive 15 minutes back home.   Rock You! Rock You! is exactly two minutes long.  How many times have you listened to Rock You! Rock You! before you make it back home?  (Bonus question.  If you run more errands on Sunday, and take the kids to school on Monday, and... and... and...)

I introduced Led Zeppelin this past weekend (I figured Led Zep IV was a good place to start), but never made it past track 1.  And so we've been listening to a lot of Black Dog now (again - a lot).  Although I also just played Bruce Springsteen's Rosalita for them, and that seemed to be a hit, too (and, thankfully, a nice long 7-8 minutes).

I figure it's only a matter of time before they find their own music, so I better get them while I can.  (Sobering thought - from a pure time span standpoint, they're listening to music that's 30-40 years old.   This would be like me listening to music from the 1930's when I was their age.)

I've done the same and I call listening to "Dad's dinosaurrock!!"

Dude, please! Consider yourself lucky. At least you are listening to good music! I am stuck with the Little Mermaid sound track, most notably "Part of Your World". And, she insists that my wife and I sing along! I am soooo tired of singing about how I am a mermaid that wants legs!

(Note: This may sound negative. I love my daughter and would do anything for her, but I am not a freaking mermaid!)

Mine was stuck on Dora and Blue's Clues music at that age. Oranges-grow-on-trees-on-trees, oranges-grow-on-trees....
