New screencapture tool in Lotus Sametime Standard 8

One of the new features introduced in Lotus Sametime Standard 8 is an extension of the existing screen capture tool so that you can now take a screen snapshot outside of an active chat.

As I've discussed here before, Lotus Sametime 7.5 had as its inspiration a number of alternate IM clients that had been developed inside of IBM.  One of these featured the ability to capture a screenshot and not only embed it in a chat, but to copy it to the clipboard or save it as a file (think SnagIt).  As I learned when doing some internal awareness/enablement sessions after the launch of Lotus Sametime 7.5 last year, people were using these tools rather extensively for things like creating technical specs or user help guides.  And they all wanted to know why they couldn't use Lotus Sametime 7.5 to capture those screenshots for pasting into Notes or Word or PowerPoint.

Well, now you can.

Just click on the screen capture icon above the contact list:

And you can save, print, or copy it to the clipboard.  (You'll also notice the new annotation tools so those of you who are as mouse/trackpoint challenged as I am can annotate images without looking like a pre-schooler.)
