Sametime 8.0.2 news

Its time to start sharing plans for Sametime Standard and Entry 8.0.2,  due out around mid Q4 2008. The Sametime 8.0.2 code will also find its way into Notes client at the next release opportunity after we ship it. Besides the usual round of maintenance issue being addressed in the release, there are also 2 important new features that may give you reason to consider the release - IPv6 support and integration with Microsoft SharePoint pages.

The new SharePoint integration capability is based on a small update to the Sametime client code, allowing the Sametime presence, chat and other services you have installed in Sametime to inter-operate with live names in SharePoint pages. Technically this is very similar to how we surface presence etc in Microsoft Office and is via the same SharePoint API that Microsoft uses for Office Communicator to connect to SharePoint. The beauty of this approach is that no rework of SharePoint pages is ever required. The Sametime Connect client works against a Sametime community server as usual and shares its presence status with the SharePoint pages displayed in the browser.

Adding this new capability continues the unique storyline of Sametime being extremely open, allowing presence, IM chat and other UC features to appear wherever you work. We already have out of the box connectors to all the major IBM collaboration products (Notes, Quickr, Lotus Connections and  Websphere Portal) , as well as Microsoft's email, office productivity and, in 8.0.2, its team collaboration tool.

I'll post more details of the system requirements for capability as we get closer to the release, but I am happy to answer your questions here.
