Trivia answer of the day: Neue Haas Grotesk

So what's the question?

What was the original name of the Helvetica font.

(Bonus answer:  Helvetica was created by Max Miedinger and Eduard Hoffmann in the late '50s in M√ľnchenstein, Switzerland. Helvetia is the Latin name for Switzerland.)

All this via the Presentation Zen blog, where Garr Reynolds reviews the Helvetica documentary.  Yes, an 80-minute documentary on a font, and yet it still sounds very interesting.

I've seen Helvetica the documentary, and I also found it quite fascinating. The filmmakers do a good job of weaving the story of the font with the larger context of graphic design and society at large. Highly recommended.
